Staying Resilient @ Work

Why This Conversation Matters

The topic of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is one that while not new is being highlighted everywhere, from CEO and company pledges, to news headlines, books, articles, podcasts and more. While some people appear to feel empowered to launch into discussion others may feel hesitant, worrying about saying “the wrong thing”. Despite all the information available, many individuals share that this is a topic that is both important and difficult to explore at work. Some have experienced the letdown of training programs that gloss over diversity, avoiding deep and significant topics such as Race or Disability. This Team Talk goes beyond a “check the box” activity to generate a conversation that is very real and relevant to life both inside and outside of work. Teams will be invited to explore Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in a meaningful way that deepens awareness and connection in the pursuit of advancing a more inclusive work environment.

Goals of this Team Talk:

  1. Explore current feelings and fears about engaging in diversity conversations

  2. Understand how experiences with diversity have shaped our mindsets and behaviors

  3. Appreciate the value of having a conversation about diversity and increase comfort and ability to do so

EACH TEAM TALK YOU PURCHASE WILL INCLUDE A WARM-UP EXERCISE, A CONVERSATION GUIDE, AND A CONVERSATION TOOLKIT

The Warm-Up

This is a self-awareness exercise – Team Leaders will send out this document to their team before the Team Talk to get individuals thinking about the topic and “warm up” to the concept of sharing during the session.

The Conversation Guide

This tool is for the Team Leader and it provides a suggested flow for leading the conversation and getting the team talking. The guides are easy to follow, yet open enough to allow each team to shape their experience together. Every conversation ends with an invitation to practice and build upon the learning together.
